WebAlso as far as consistency, the BSS reeds in my opinion can’t be beat. I get at least 8 or 9 playable reeds in a box of 10 sometimes all 10 play perfect! For a Brighter sounding reed and consistency , I have tried Rigotti Golds, and they are amazing as well. Both Rigotti and BSS come from the same factory :). WebDec 21, 2024 · The BSS reeds are a little darker than Rigotti. They seem to be cut thicker and the fibers seem denser. More fibers than pulp, I guess is the correct description. I think they may take longer for me to break them into being more edgy but think they may last longer. I have 5 that I’ll practice on to see how I feel about them in the long run. The Rigotti Gold JAZZ reeds are brighter than BSS reeds, while the Rigotti Classic are darker (Thats all the Rigotti's i've tried though). As to strength, they are a little different.
